General information
The 7th conference on measurement science will be held from May 20 to 23, 2009 in the Smolenice castle situated about 60 km from Bratislava in Low Carpathian mountains. The scientific program will be concentrated to three main areas: theoretical problems of measurement, measurement of physical quantities and measurement in biology and medicine. Printed proceedings of presented papers will be available at the time of the conference. Authors of selected presentations will be invited to submit extended papers for publication in the on-line journal Measurement Science Review published by Versita - Central European Science Publisher and indexed in Index Copernicus International and Thomson Reuters Master Journal List .
Special buses will be offered for transportation to/from Smolenice before and after the conference. Accommodation and meals will be offered in the castle. For more information on the conference you can download the conference leaflet here.
Word from the conference chairman
Dear colleagues,
It is my great pleasure and honor to invite you to participate in the 7th international conference on Measurement that will be held traditionally in the conference center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in the beautiful Smolenice castle.
The conference will cover a broad range of measurement science issues from theoretical problems of measurement to specific applications of measuring methods and systems in research, industry and medicine. Scientific program will be accomplished by invited keynote lectures, oral presentations and posters. We will prepare also special sessions organized under the auspices of the sponsoring professional societies.
Besides the rich scientific program we hope that the comfortable environment of the castle together with the offered social events will help to create pleasant atmosphere for fruitful discussions and making new partnerships and friendships.
I extend a very warm welcome in anticipation of attendance of scientists, researchers, engineers and students interested in up-to-date measurement science. Castle in Smolenice is waiting for you!

Experimental Analysis of Gait Parameters Variability using Videocamera Records
D. Šimšík - TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF KOŠICE
INTRODUCTION:
The human gait analysis can provide important data for gait patterns classification of individuals as input for identification of persons according to gait parameters. Role of identification in criminology:distinguish person from others according to unique characteristics: biometrics (biological, physical, genetic), overall appearance, social behaviour, interaction in the environment (family, friends, colleauges), knowledge, occupation etc. |

Atherosclerosis : Nonlinear Optical Measurements Related to Disease Progression
M.G. Sowa - National Research Council of Canada
Conclusions:
- Label-free imaging of thick arterial tissue was demonstrated using a PCF-based multi-modal nonlinear optical microscope.
- All three major extracellular components: elastin, type-I collagen and lipids-laden cells were imaged simultaneously by TPEF, SHG and CARS, respectively, using only one femto-second laser source.
- Healthy and Atherosclerosis rabbit artery showed very different surface pathology. Atherosclerotic lesions of various stages also showed different lumen surface pathology.
- A simple scoring method (OIPB) using pixel intensity information was devised to distinguish images from healthy vessel wall from regions with plaque.
- OIPB seems promising but ignores the rich texture information in the NLO images.
- Multi-modal NLO imaging: a potential non-invasive tool for direct visualization of the progression of atherosclerotic disease.
