„From Verbal Models to Mathematical Models – A Didactical Concept not just in Metrology“

Karl H. Ruhm - Institute of Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF)

Abstract:
The  application  of  mathematical  models  in  everyday  Metrology  does  not seem  to  be  an  urgent  mission.  And  Mathematics,  though  a  ubiquitous  discipline, does not play a major role either. The following sections propose that the prevalent educational concept in Metrology should for once change sides and should use the top‐down approach of interdisciplinary mathematical model structures. The current educational concept with all these bottom‐up approaches serves fields of diverse and limited interests only and is not able to attract the Metrology Community as a whole.
