NanEye3D - World's smallest Stereocamera

With a total volume of 3.5mm³ the NanEye3D cameramodule represents actually the smallest stereocamera worldwide. Beside the size the one advantage is, that the precision of the cameras is extremely high so that calibration and rectification is not mandatory. Main applications are in the medical area for miniaturized 3D Endoscopes, and also for industrial application for measuring and visualisation. AWAIBA will present the technical features of the new product and will show a live demo at the booth.

Video: Big pixels or small pixels? Demystifying pixel size, resolution, sensitivity

The recent trends in consumer imaging have provided image sensors with always smaller pixel sizes and higher pixel numbers. Especially the improvements in CMOS image sensor have made it possible to shrink pixel sizes to below 1um and boost resolution of "low cost" imaging modules beyond 12Mpixels.
This presentation will look at scaling pixel size issues and elaborate which other parameters besides sensor cost and Mpixel numbers are directly affected by the pixel size. Namely full well capacity, SNR, dynamic range, light collection efficiency and MTF.
The talk shall give the machine vision engineer a basic understanding in order to develop a physics based decision for which of his applications small pixels or very high resolution image sensors will be beneficial and help to avoid miss understandings of marketing specifications.
