ams-OSRAM's Engage Program - Info Session on Entrepreneurial Training for Female Researchers

Updated: Jan 15

In June 2023, the European Commission approved the second IPCEI in Microelectronics and Communication Technologies (IPCEI ME/CT). The project aims to enable the digital and green transformation of the European Union by (i) creating innovative microelectronics and communication solutions and (ii) developing energy-efficient and resource-saving electronics systems and manufacturing methods.

With its project "Efficient Optoelectronics for a Sustainable and Resilient European Semiconductor Ecosystem - OptoSuRe", funded within the IPCEI ME/CT, our Clusterpartner ams-OSRAM aims to advance R&D for future highly efficient and integrated optoelectronic semiconductor devices and to create the necessary framework conditions for this.

As part of OptoSuRe’s spillover activities, we are excited to introduce "Engage," a pioneering program designed to empower women researchers in their commercialization pursuits. Recognizing the unique challenges women face in entrepreneurship, such as systemic obstacles and gender biases, it is essential to provide them with the extra support needed to overcome these hurdles.

"Engage" is a training initiative that operates during the Ideation phase of business development. Its primary objective is to identify innovative ideas and nurture an entrepreneurial mindset among talented individuals. This program serves as a catalyst, equipping the participants with necessary skills for the first stage of business development.

Engage” is:

  • a 9-week training program for women at the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey who want to commercialize a scientific idea;

  • Delivered virtually to enable pan-European participation;

  • Free of charge;

  • Without obligations; and

  • qualifying for further entrepreneurship and business development training.

This opportunity is open to researchers at the Master, PhD, and Post Doc levels. Applicants should have a particular interest in one of the following areas of focus:

  • Optics and Photonics.

  • Micro and Optoelectronics (spanning the value chain from Components over Systems to Applications such as Visualisation, Illumination, Sensing, and Medicine/Health).

  • Digitization (excluding pure software development, pure machine learning/AI approaches).

  • Smart Manufacturing.

  • Linking the focus areas with aspects of sustainability, energy efficiency and resource efficiency.

We would like to encourage you to multiply this information by sharing it with female researchers in your organization and within your network.

To learn more about this exciting opportunity and how "Engage" can empower female researchers to embrace an entrepreneurial journey, we invite you to register for the stakeholder briefing tailored for academic institutions, research centres, national research organizations and enterprise development agencies. This information session is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2024.

  • Date: Thursday, February 1, 2024

  • Time: 11.00hrs (CET)

  • Location: Online (Zoom)
